Your Body Has Something To Say

SOMATIC LIFE COACHING

Harnessing bodily wisdom to allow the unique expression of your life to blossom.

No state we are in is permanent, and no emotion we feel has a single solid quality. By exploring the nuances of what we experience within ourselves and learning the language of our body, we can find fluidity in what we feel. Something that once felt contracted will start to open, something that once felt stuck will start to shift.

Somatic Life Coaching consists of an array of supportive and nourishing approaches for the fluctuating states of being human.

By tending to your ‘in-the-moment’ experience and creating a safe space to explore what’s arising, fresh insights and new possibilities can reveal themselves. This gives rise to choices you previously didn’t have access to, allowing for your own organic process of ‘life-forwarding’ to occur.

Your body is not just a taxi for your brain. Somatic approaches recognise this and offer practical ways to relate to your entire organism in its full aliveness. This integrated approach to ‘Mind’, ‘Body’, and ‘Spirit’ can empower you to navigate life in a more harmonious and unified way.

Bodily Wisdom for Creative Living is about harnessing all that is possible within you for your life to feel like your own creation.

Without by-passing hardship and struggles, nor denying external factors that are outside of your control.

Who is it for, and how might it be useful?

Are you experiencing an urge, telling you that something needs to shift?

You might know what that ‘something’ is – or, perhaps it’s murky, and you want to find out?

Challenge & Desire

Somatic life Coaching will help you uncover and explore your Challenges and Desires.

The challenge is something you’re experiencing that you don’t want to be.
The desire is something you want to be experiencing but aren’t.

Challenges can take the form of internal states, such as anxiousness, feeling lost, low self-esteem or other uncomfortable feelings that arise. They can also present as external situations causing you discomfort, such as a job you no longer want to be in, or a relationship that’s making you unhappy.

Desires can also take on internal and external forms. For example, the desire to feel like you belong in your own skin, or to be more present and calm, and outward desires such as bringing your creative vision to life or expressing yourself authentically.

Somatic Life Coaching provides a nurturing environment to explore your challenges and desires. You’ll learn to cultivate a deeper level of listening that enables you to access multiple layers of your experience. This develops your ability to receive and respond to signals from your body, allowing for clarity and self-knowledge to emerge.

A body-oriented approach to coaching offers a pathway to creative living.

It is for anybody who wants to feel more empowered in their life, and experience a more loving relationship with themselves.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

If you’d like to know more, please email me to say hi, or we can arrange a complimentary 15 minute discovery chat.

In the meantime, here are some responses to some frequently asked questions, that you might find helpful:

What does ‘Somatic’ mean?

Derived from the Greek word ‘Soma’, meaning ‘the living body’ in its wholeness.

Your Soma is not just skin and bones, but encompasses your entire organism in its full aliveness. Somatic approaches recognise your body as far more than a taxi for your brain; it’s the place where your entire lived experience resides: an interwoven web of neurology, psychology and biology that, like the weave of a fabric, cannot be separated.

What happens in a one-to-one Somatic Life Coaching session?

Each session is unique and takes a non-formulaic approach, allowing whatever is present on the day to be addressed with curiosity and nourishment.

You might arrive at a session knowing what you want to explore, which may or may not form part of wider themes that you’re addressing across a course of sessions or in your life as a whole. Equally, the sessions can lead us down spontaneous pathways informed by what is lying beneath your conscious mind. You are invited to simply come as you are with nothing you need to ‘do’.

Free-flowing conversation is interspersed with practices and techniques drawn from a range of methodologies from established schools of body-centred therapy and somatic practice. I apply them with an intuitive and creative touch based on what I identify as being required in the moment.

We follow the principle of ‘the authority of the body’, whereby you’ll hone your ability to listen to and learn from the signals in your ‘Soma’, informing the direction the sessions take. The aim is to provide a supportive, nurturing and empowering environment for your self-exploration and growth. If you have questions and would like to find out more, you can book a complimentary discovery call here.

Do the sessions involve movement and meditation?

Some somatic techniques are meditative in their quality and involve guidance into embodied mindful awareness. Movement is used sporadically as a tool to express, release, explore, embody and integrate.

Whilst I sometimes invite and recommend specific practices, these one-to-one coaching sessions won’t guide you through a movement and meditation class. If this is something you’re interested in, then let’s have a chat to find out I can help, or point you towards someone who can.

What outcomes might I experience?

What is your training that enables you to perform this work?

I trained as a Body-Oriented coach with The Somatic School (accredited by the International Coach Federation), where I now serve as a course coach.

The Somatic School has developed a set of principles and tools drawn from established schools of body-centred therapy and somatic practice including Hakomi, Focusing and Gestalt, as well as Mindfulness and the ethos of Eastern contemplative traditions. Rather than being a new modality proposing a single, all-or-nothing way of working, it offers a “family” of process-oriented approaches that can be integrated according to the individual coach.

Over the past twenty years I’ve practiced, studied and facilitated a range of movement, therapeutic, coaching and creative modalities in different locations across Europe, Asia and the US. This encompasses multiple yoga teacher trainings, bodywork training with The Alchemy of Touch, Reiki, and ten years of teaching yoga, meditation and movement, including training and mentoring new yoga teachers. You can read more about my journey here.

In addition to the formal qualifications I’ve undertaken, the body of work I offer is inspired and influenced by Organic Intelligence, Feldenkrais, Fitzmaurice Voicework, Franklin Method, Sacred Dance, The Realization Process and various schools of yoga and meditation.

The thread that weaves this all together and underpins my work is an understanding of the nervous system and the role it plays in how we live, grow, transform and create. Somatic, embodied and creative practices offer pathways to integrate this understanding into our lives, to cultivate health and joy for individuals, society and the planet we live on.

I’ve learnt from many wonderful teachers over the years and pay particular homage to Julie Martin, Mollie Morris, Brooke Thomas, Raphan Kebe, Craig Deuchar, Christine Mottram and Nathan Blair.

How is it different from therapy?

Firstly, it’s important to note that I’m not a therapist. Trained and licensed therapists help you to address the past and understand how your psychological patterns and experiences might be shaping how you feel and behave in the present – whereas coaching typically explores what is currently arising in your life, what your desires are now, and how to move forward.

My work is nervous system and trauma-informed, but the coaching I offer is not focused upon trauma healing and integration.

Somatic Life Coaching can be therapeutic in its nature. It invites a level of attention and care that can bring with it insight, nourishment and integration in support of forward movement, but it’s not a substitute for therapy if that is your true need.

If you want to discuss whether or not Somatic Life Coaching is right for you then please do get in touch.

How frequently will we meet?

A course of three or six sessions is initially recommended, depending on your circumstances and needs. Typically the space between sessions is anything from one week to one month. We can discuss what frequency works best for you.

Can I book a one-off session?

You can book an one-off session at a trial rate, allowing you to experience Somatic Life Coaching before you commit to a course.

One-off sessions can also be useful if something is ‘up’ that doesn’t require ongoing exploration. During these times of Covid-19 one-off sessions can be particularly helpful for processing thoughts and feelings in a somatic way, integrating some of what’s happening under the surface and bringing some regulation to your nervous system.

Where do sessions take place and how long for?

Sessions last for 60 minutes and generally take place over Zoom, but alternatives can be discussed.

How much is a session and how do I pay?

Sessions range from £65 – £90, with your first trial session priced at £65. Please reach out to me directly for a breakdown of rates.

I also offer a few sessions each month at a concessionary rate for those who are experiencing financial difficulty. Please contact me to find out more.

Payment is by bank transfer or paypal.

What availability do you have?

Take a look at my schedule here to get an idea of what’s typically available each week.

How do I enquire about a session?

You can send me an email to say hi and discuss your needs, or book a complimentary 15-minute chat here.

Nathalie is incredibly intuitive. She is great at just listening, which is sometimes what I need when I verbally vomit up all the thoughts I’ve been storing up that week. But she is also so very clever at reading between the lines, and knowing what beliefs or perceptions are driving my thoughts, and where they’re not serving me. As well as inspiring me to try the things that light up my soul.

A, London

Coaching with Nathalie has helped me to truly start living with more presence. To begin to untangle the layers of complicated fears, emotions, desires and beliefs that have been keeping me stuck. To feel excited about the possibilities of being alive! To feel more choice about where I want to focus my energies in life and how I choose to experience life.

K, Oxford
